Ghana and Morocco Strengthen Ties to Boost Fertilizer Production, Agro-Processing, and Jobs
•

Accra, July 16, 2025 — Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, hosted a high-level Moroccan delegation led by H.E. Abderrahim Cherrab to advance bilateral cooperation in job-creating sectors.
The discussions focused on fertilizer production, agro-processing, and industrial investments—three critical areas that can accelerate shared economic growth for both nations.
Announcing the meeting on her official Facebook page, Ofosu-Adjare stated:
“Ghana is poised for strategic collaborations that foster job creation and drive shared economic growth.”
This initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s administration’s agenda to leverage international partnerships for industrial transformation under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Morocco’s Fertilizer Expertise for Ghana’s Agriculture
As one of the world’s leading fertilizer producers, Morocco brings valuable technical expertise to strengthen Ghana’s agricultural value chains. The talks signaled potential investments in:
- Local fertilizer manufacturing to reduce import dependence
- Agro-processing infrastructure for export-oriented agricultural products
- Industrial zones to drive youth employment and innovation
Ghana’s Wider Economic Reform Agenda
The renewed partnership comes amid Ghana’s recent emphasis on energy reliability (highlighted in a PURC survey) and anti-corruption reforms (following the ex-NPA probe). Together, these multi-sector reforms aim to build economic resilience as the country prepares for the 2028 elections.
Looking Forward
If successfully implemented, Ghana-Morocco collaboration could:
- Reduce reliance on imported agricultural inputs
- Strengthen agro-industrial competitiveness
- Create thousands of new jobs, particularly for the youth
- Position Ghana as a regional hub for fertilizer production and value-added exports
This partnership highlights how strategic bilateral cooperation can create sustainable growth pathways and ensure long-term benefits for Ghana’s economy.
